Review: Andaz Wall Street
The Andaz Wall Street is located in New York’s prime financial district area at the corner of Wall and Water streets and is steps away from the New York Stock Exchange and next to offices of various Fortune 500 companies.
We recently had the pleasure of visiting New York for the first time and got to take in all of the great things New York City has to offer from hotel accommodations, tourist attractions, restaurants and much more.
I plan on reviewing all aspects of our trip, including the hotels we stayed at and plan on offering tips on visiting the main attractions in New York City. The last hotel we stayed at was the Andaz Wall Street, after first staying at the Hyatt Times Square New York and the Park Hyatt New York.
For the last day of our trip, we decided to stay in the financial district to check out the area and some of the main tourist sights including, the NYSE, the Charging Bull, the Brooklyn Bridge, One World Center and Memorial. It was also closer to the route we'd need to take to get back to JFK airport, so it made a lot of sense for us.
Hotel Overview:
The Andaz Wall Street is the only hotel with a Wall Street address and is situated in a non-descript building that was originally built for Barclays Bank in 1982. The building was redesigned to house the hotel and now features 253 loft-style guestrooms with contemporary decor focusing on simplicity and comfort.
The entrance is located on Water street with the check-in desk to your left and communal lounge seating on the other side. There is a wine hour hosted nightly and a seasonal beer garden on the patio.
There is a gym and spa located on the lower level of the hotel. The only dining option here is at Dina Rata, a bistro style restaurant featuring American cuisine. Diamond breakfast here is either a small buffet (similar to a Hyatt House breakfast) or you can order from the menu.
We booked our stay using a Points+Cash rate and were given a standard king room on the 11th floor. The decor of the room is very simple, contemporary and typical of what you can expect of the Andaz brand. All drinks and snacks in the room are included, except for alcohol. The shower and bathtub are combined and looks directly into the room.
My Experience:
The Andaz Wall Street is the only hotel on Wall Street and is primarily a business hotel geared more towards that demographic. The Andaz brand is Hyatt's take on modern boutique style hotels and from the various Andaz hotels we've experienced from the Andaz Maui and Andaz Napa, this Andaz left us slightly disappointed.
The hotel location is great for visiting the area attractions in the financial district, but other than that and for being an Andaz property, service was spotty at best from check-in to dining at Dina Rata and the room we had was larger than typical, but showed lots of wear and tear.
To sum up our stay here -- other than it's location and room size, there wasn't much else going on for the Andaz Wall Street based on our recent experience here.
Also, given it is a Category 6 hotel within the Hyatt Gold Passport Program (which will run you 25,000 points or 12,500 points + $150), I just don't see the value in it and you'd be better off using your valuable points elsewhere at another Hyatt property in New York.
If you prefer the location and will be visiting sights in and around Wall Street, then this Andaz hotel may be worth considering.
