Finance Friday: Visa Infinite $100 Airfare Discount
Finance Friday is a periodic series that brings you travel related finance news you can use to help your wallet and maximize all possible value when traveling.
Are you familiar with Visa Infinite credit cards? There are only a handful of Visa Infinite cards available and one of the many great benefits of this program is being able to save $100 on round-trip airfare when you book a qualifying itinerary for two to five travelers.
Read more about how you can take advantage of this great benefit.
Visa Infinite is the highest tier of Visa-branded credit cards, with the other two being the standard Visa and Visa Signature program. Currently, there are just a few Visa Infinite credit cards available, including the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card, UBS Visa Infinite credit card and the Ritz Carlton Rewards credit card.
In addition to the premium benefits and service the Visa Infinite program offers, one of the key benefits is the $100 Roundtrip Domestic Coach Discount on airfare. Note that only a few of the current Visa Infinite cards out there offer this particular benefit, so be sure to check with your Visa Infinite card issuer to learn more about your specific card benefits.
I have currently have the Ritz Carlton Rewards credit card and enjoy all of the great benefits it offers. Not only does the card have a great sign-up bonus and some great perks (travel credits, travel benefits, etc), but the $100 discount on airfare more than makes up for the annual fee.
Best of all, there’s no limit on the number of times you can use this benefit.
How does the $100 discount work?
Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card cardmembers can receive a $100 discount per itinerary on a minimum purchase of 2 and maximum purchase of 5 coach class qualifying domestic round-trip airline tickets when booked on the Visa Infinite Discount Air website with their eligible Visa Infinite card.
Other terms for the $100 discount include:
Note that the discount is per itinerary for 2-5 travelers and your name must be on each booking, so you can’t get more savings by purchasing tickets separately.
Is the Airfare Pricing Higher?
The pricing on the Visa Infinite Discount Air website is the same as you'll find directly on the airlines website.
Here's an example: Sacramento to Long Beach round trip airfare for May 8 - 12:
The JetBlue website shows the total price for two passengers as $212.80.
The Visa Infinite Discount Air Website has the same pricing, but with the $100 discount, the total price for two passengers comes out to $112.80, a savings of $100.
I've used the Visa Infinite Discount Air site for a few flights and also some upcoming flights and the $100 savings on the airfare has been a great benefit to have. I also try to use points/miles when I can to save on airfare, but with the $100 discount available on certain itineraries, the value I'd be getting from using points/miles wouldn't make sense and I'd get a better value through this program.
