Castello di Amorosa: The Most Family-Friendly Wine Experience in Napa Valley

If you're planning a trip to the Napa Valley wine country with kids - look no further than the Castello di Amorosa - a castle and a winery located near Calistoga, California.

While most wineries may be boring for kids (with some not even allowing them at all), this one not only allows children, but welcomes well-behaved and well-supervised kids and offers grape juice tasting in a friendly Knights Hall tasting room with a table for coloring.

There are also farm animals and birds just outside the castle that kids will love checking out.

Wine Tasting:
The replica 13th-century Tuscan castle is a sight to see itself with a moat, a drawbridge and even a torture chamber; all sights you can see as you taste some wine as well.

You'll be able to taste a a wide range of reds, including Sangiovese, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as wite wines ranging from standard Italian varietals (Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco and Vermentino) and Chardonnay.

Overall Impression:
Castello di Amorosa took 14 years to build and was completed in 2007.  The attention to detail and handiwork here is very impressive.  After seeing it and reading about how it was built you'll appreciate how it was the the realization of an all-consuming passion.  Fourth generation winemaker Dario Sattui built an authentically styled 13th century Tuscan castle winery to honor his Italian heritage and deep love for medieval architecture.

Just walking through the castle is worth the admission alone as it is so picturesque and will take you back in time to another era in time.

Be sure to add this castle and winery on your way through the Napa Valley!
