A Walk Through Rome - See Rome in a Day Tour with Walks

The Eternal City has some of the best known tourist attractions in the world and is home to historic sights such as the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, St. Peters Basilica, the Vatican, Pantheon and much more.

Rome continues to preserve its ancient history and the cafes, restaurants, and shops are unlike any in the world.  Whenever visiting a city, especially as historic as Rome,  I highly recommend scheduling a tour with a local company for insider access to many of the sights and access to a knowledgeable tour guide who will provide key insights and history as you make your way through a city.

Another great benefit of scheduling a tour is that it allows you to quickly understand the location of everything in relation to each other, how the transit systems work, where the tourist traps are, good restaurant locations and more - which allows you to go back and explore on your own later if you'd like.

On our last visit to Rome, we only had a short amount of time in the city, but still wanted to see the main sites and after an exhaustive search for a tour that fit our needs and still offer everything we were looking for we settled on the "Rome In A Day Tour with Vatican, Colosseum & Historic Center" with Walks!

One of the benefits of this tour is that is a small group only and on the day of the tour, there were only three of us, so this was pretty much a private tour of Rome and it didn't cost us any extra!

The tour offered by Walks takes you on an epic journey through Rome, where you'll visit the Colosseum, Vatican Museums, St. Peter's Basilica, and the historic center of the city in just 7-8 hours.  Based on my reserach, there is no more complete way to see Rome in a single day at the price point they offer.

Sites Visited
We started our tour just outside the Colisseum at a nearby cafe and then walked from site to site throughout Rome.  After visiting the Trevi Fountain, we stopped for gelato and then made our way to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona and from there we took a short private bus ride to just outside the Vatican where we stopped for lunch.
  • Colosseum

  • Overlook of the Roman Forum

  • Historic Center
  • Trevi Fountain
  • Pantheon

  • Piazza Navona

  • Vatican Museums

  • St. Peter's Basilica (quick orientation and then visit on your own)

Taking an all-day tour or anything in between is a great way to get a quick orientation of the city you are visiting and allows you to see a lot of sights in a short amount of time.  Once you have all of that insider knowledge from a local expert you can come back and explore at your leisure!

If you are planning a trip Europe (or other big cities Walks covers), I highly recommend checking out the tours they offer - you will not be disappointed!!
