Review: Honolulu Luxury at The Kahala Hotel & Resort

Long recognized as the hideaway of international royalty and Hollywood celebrities, The Kahala Hotel & Resort is the perfect place to stay on Oahu with unrivaled standards of luxury and comfort for everyone.

And if you're looking to get away from the crowds of Waikiki, but still have easy access to everything Honolulu’s best restaurants, shopping, and sights have to offer - then the Kahala Hotel & Resort is perfect for you!

We enjoyed a short stay at the Kahala late last year in 2019 and had the most wonderful and relaxing time at the hotel and plan to be back in the future!

Hotel Overview
The Kahala Hotel & Resort is a luxury resort located on the island of Oahu hidden away in Honolulu’s exclusive residential area of Kahala, on the other side of Diamond Head, and only a ten-minute free shuttle ride away from Waikiki.

It truly is the best of both world's - close enough to Honolulu and Waikiki for shopping, dining and activities, yet far enough away from the crowds to enjoy a relaxing vacation on private Kahala Beach.

Arriving at this beautiful resort is an experience that recalls the graceful hospitality of "old Hawaii" with an inviting lobby reminiscent of a plantation manor home - offering designer furnishings and spectacular views through the palm trees to the ocean.

Lobby chandeliers are original and feature 28,000 multi-colored pieces of Italian fused glass.

The resort is perfect for those looking to get away from the crowds and is also a great option for families.

Resort amenities here include:
  • White sand beach and pool that is less busy and hectic than what you'll find in Waikiki.
    • We enjoyed swimming in the pool and calm waters of Kahala Beach, which is a calm swimmable beach.
    • The reef just offshore makes the waters here calm enough for young kids and two man-made peninsulas at each end of the resort beach prevent tidal action from washing away sand.
  • Dolphin Quest Experience
    • Dolphin lagoon featuring bottle nose dolphins, sea turtles and tropical fish.

  • The Kahala Spa
    • The spa features treatments rooms, each equipped with a shower, deep-soaking tub, changing area and relaxation area, with an emphasis on Hawaiian ingredients and treatment techniques
  • Orchid Stair Wall
    • Beautiful stairway perfect for pictures

  • Photo wall of past renowned guests including celebrities and presidents

On-Site Dining Options
The Kahala embraces a diverse blend of Honolulu restaurants trends and cultural influences that features some great dining options on-site that include:
  • Fine dining at Hoku's featuring global Hawaiian cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere with ocean views
  • Arancino features classic yet innovative Italian cuisine
  • Seaside Grill is a poolside bar and grill perfect for grabbing a food and drinks while lounging around the pool and beach area
  • The Veranda is perfect for afternoon tea, cocktails and evening appetizers.  The comfortable lounge offers both indoor and outdoor seating and live entertainment on select nights.

  • Plumeria Beach House is perfect for enjoying a meal outside while taking in the ocean views.
    • We enjoyed breakfast here every morning and a wonderful dinner.

Accommodations
The resort has one of the largest rooms in Hawaii starting 550 square-feet, with his-and-her bathroom vanities and walk-in closets.  The newly remodeled guest rooms and suites are spacious and decorated in an understated Hawaiian style with mahogany furniture.

For our recent stay here, we were in a double bed room featuring Mountain views.  The room offered us plenty of space for our family of four and the separate vanities and bath/shower were nice to have.

Mountain view rooms, many with balconies, offer great panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and golf course.  Ocean view and oceanfront offer spectacular panoramic views from Diamond Head to Koko Head Crater.

Other room/suite categories feature more expansive rooms and much more space to spread out in.  And if you're looking for the ultimate luxury experience the one of the four Signature Suites at the hotel are perfect for you - each signature suite is unique and all offer breath-taking ocean views.

Situated on the very top floor, the Imperial Suite commands an incredible bird’s-eye views of Kahala Bay.
