Hotel Review: Hotel Clio, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Denver Cherry Creek

Hotel Review of our stay at the Hotel Clio, A Luxury Collection Hotel, located in Denver Cherry Creek

The Hotel Clio, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is located in the upscale neighborhood of Cherry Creek, just Southeast of downtown Denver.  It is the smart choice to stay at when wanting to stay in Denver, but just outside of downtown, as there are a lot of dining and shopping options located within walking distance.

Hotel Overview

If you are planning a trip to Denver, the Hotel Clio is a great option to consider due to its location and proximity to dining, shopping and Denver area attractions.

The upscale neighborhood of Cherry Creek North is home to more than 300 retail shops and the city’s highest concentration of locally-owned stores, as well as many dining options.  The well-planned mixed-use neighborhood is still close enough to downtown, but away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Hotel Clio was recently rebranded to a Luxury Collection brand within Marriott portfolio of brands.  Prior to the rebranding, the hotel was a JW Marriott location.

An email I received after booking described the rebranding:

Our beloved hotel will change from the JW Marriott Denver Cherry Creek to Hotel Clio, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Denver Cherry Creek. This change celebrates the culmination of our transformational property renovation, bringing an inspired oasis that grants guests access to the best of the beautiful Cherry Creek destination.

Named after Clio, the Greek muse of history, who is often referred to as the proclaimer, Hotel Clio proclaims the glory and greatness of our surrounding community. In a neighborhood filled with an abundance of sophisticated shops and restaurants, visitors are sure to find their muse at every turn—especially when they arrive at Hotel Clio.  We look forward to providing sources of inspiration during throughout your stay, whether it be experiencing one of our ceviche making classes hosted in our restaurant or discovering the next greatest treasure out in our Cherry Creek neighborhood.

Hotel Amenities here include an onsite restaurant, Toro Latin Kitchen & Lounge, a Fitness Center and ample meeting space, in case you're staying here for business.

Accommodations

The hotel has 196 guest rooms and suites, with a modern decor and the recently renovated rooms feature large picture windows offering views of either Colorado’s famed Rocky Mountains or vibrant Cherry Creek neighborhood, luxurious five-fixture marble bathrooms, lush pillowtop mattresses, spacious closets, in-room coffee maker and tea service, in-room safe, air conditioning and 24-hour room service.

For our recent stay, we booked a two queen bed room at the Hotel Clio using Marriott Bonvoy points.

This stay was a part of our 2022 trips that were covered with Marriott Bonvoy points:

Dining

We enjoyed daily breakfast at Toro, the signature restaurant at Hotel Clio, that was covered by our Marriott Bonvoy Titanium benefits.

Since there were so many great restaurant options located within walking distance, we enjoyed lunch and dinner outside of the hotel.  The onsite restaurant, Toro Latin Kitchen & Lounge features Central & South American flavors and looked like an amazing restaurant to try for dinner, but we didn't get a chance to try it.

Restaurants in the Cherry Creek Neighborhood we enjoyed include:
  • Sol Mexican Cocina
  • Hapa Sushi Grill & Sake Bar
  • Mehak's Indian Aroma
  • True Food Kitchen
There is also a Whole Foods nearby, as well as the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, which is a huge mall.

Overall Impression

Our stay at Hotel Clio was over a long weekend in Denver, as we made our way back home from a trip that started in Washington DC, then over to Disney World, with a last stop in Denver.

This stay at Hotel Clio was a part of our 2022 trips that were covered with Marriott Bonvoy points, How I Redeemed 2.1 Million Marriott Bonvoy Points to Save over $35,000 on Family Travel Hotel Stays in 2022

During our quick stop in Denver, we were able to explore downtown Denver, making stops at the Denver Mint, Union Station, Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the Denver Art Museum.

We liked the less crowded feeling of being just outside of downtown Denver at the Hotel Clio, with easy access to lots of dining options, all within walking distance.

The recent rebranding from the previous JW Marriott brand (still considered to be upscale/luxury), in my opinion, is to help distinguish this hotel as more of an independent luxury option in Denver.

Overall, this stay was a great use of our Marriott Bonvoy points and in line with what I would expect when staying at a Luxury Collection branded Marriott hotel.
