Review: The St. Regis Rome
The St. Regis Rome, originally opened in 1894 and designed by Cesar Ritz, is located in the heart of the city within walking distance of famed Via Veneto, the Spanish Steps and the renowned shopping area Via Condotti. It is also close enough to walk to the Colosseum, Roman Ruins, Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona.
Hotel Overview:
The hotel completed a massive $45 million dollar renovation in 2018 and has retaken its place as the best and most luxurious hotel accommodation in Rome. The renovation embraces the grandeur of a 1894 palazzo with the meticulous renovation of the hotel embracing both past and present, inviting guests to a residence with an extraordinary, evolving legacy. All of the 160 rooms at the hotel have been fashioned in contemporary tones of cinnamon or powder blue with a combination of Rubelli fabrics and new art.
The exterior of the hotel looks more like a residence than a hotel, but as soon as you enter the lobby you'll see why the St Regis Rome is considered to be one the most luxurious hotels in Rome and has welcomed kings, heads of State and celebrities.
Demonstrating a sleek, polished style, the monumental lobby—designed with columns, arched entryways and moldings—is illuminated with natural light, not to mention the 15-foot Murano glass chandelier. You’ll also find noble Roman patterns and materials like travertine and bronze alluding to Rome’s historical tradition of artisanship. Overall, the new look is an opulent homage to Rome with sculptural busts, mosaics and objets d’art decorating the spaces.
The famous Ritz Ballroom, which first debuted in 1894 as the very first public ballroom in Rome, has also undergone a renovation - a six month, artisan led restoration, touching up the tromp l’oeil frescoes.
Just past the lobby, an exclusive dining experience awaits in an airy and luminous interior, newly renovated, featuring refined details inspired after both contemporary and golden age decor.
Foodies will enjoy flavors of the Mediterranean cuisine offered at the hotel's renewed Caelum Bar.
Breakfast is also available here every morning and the spread is large and impressive. Made to order omelets, pastries, fresh fruit and much more are offered here.
Lastly, be sure to check out the nightly champagne sabering. Champagne sabering dates back to the battles of Napoleon Bonaparte, who famously opened champagne with his saber in both victory and defeat. The art of sabrage is a signature ceremony of the St. Regis Evening Rituals series.
Accommodations:
The hotel features 160 guest rooms that have all been remodeled and fashioned in contemporary tones of cinnamon or powder blue. For my most recent stay, I was in an Imperial King Room that featured beautiful decor and a luxurious modern bathroom.
The welcome amenity I received was a nice touch and very much appreciated. It consisted of welcome letters, champagne, fresh fruits and sweets.
The view from the room was of the Piazza della Repubblica, an area known for its proximity to Termini Station, Rome’s main railway.
Other amenities to check out during your stay include the Kami Spa and Fitness Center.
One of the hallmarks of the St Regis brand includes their Butler Service which may include ironing, unpacking service or recommendations for restaurants; no request is too small or unattainable. Should you need anything during your travels or just for convenience, St Regis Butler Service will be sure to have it on hand or help acquire the needed item.
