Mendocino Family Travel Guide: Where to Stay and Top Things to Do!
If you're looking for the perfect family-friendly getaway to cure your post-lockdown travel itch, look no further than beautiful Mendocino County!
Mendocino is known for its natural beauty, rugged coastline, inland vineyards, having the tallest Redwoods in the world, and glass-bottom beaches, making it the perfect place for endless outdoor adventure.
Getting to Mendocino County
Mendocino County is located in Northern California, approximately 2 hours North of San Francisco and 2-3 hours Northwest of Sacramento. It may come as a surprise, but Mendocino County is so large, it stretches for nearly 100 miles from North to South and most of the things discussed in this travel guide center around the towns of Mendocino, Fort Bragg and the Anderson Valley, as shown in the map below.

The most popular way to get to Mendocino is windy Highway 128 via Highway 101, through picturesque rolling hills and towering Redwood forests. The drive can be very windy so be sure to plan ahead and make frequent stops or if you're prone to getting car sick, take some dramamine before venturing out.
Make a pit stop in Anderson Valley |
Getting to Mendocino may seem like long trip and and despite the region’s accessibility, its bucolic farmlands and untouched coast feel worlds away from city life. When you hear someone say they want to get away and relax, Mendocino County should be near the top of the list.
